Open Day at County House

Welcome to our Open Day at County House on Tuesday, 20th March 2012, 10am-2pm.

If you have never been to County House then this is an opportunity for you to view the house, to meet the Board of Trustees and to chat, over a cup of tea or coffee to the various committee members who will be there.

There will be plenty to see, the sub-committees will have displays of their work as well as information about Denman College and the Associated Country Women of the World. The WI Advisers will be on hand to answer questions as to how,what when, where and why along with help on the membership communication system.

Come with your queries, questions and suggestions and discover the real meaning of all those endless abbreviations  used in the WI. Pick up leaflets, ideas and information about the Women’s Institute that you may not be aware of.

County House is  at: 229 Church Road, Yardley, Birmingham B25 8UR situated behind 227 Church Road which is jta travel. Parking is down the slope.

Literary Lunch with author Annie Murray.

Thursday, 14th April 2011, 12.00 for 12.30pm.

Joins us for lunch at : Thistle Hotel Birmingham City, St. Chad’s, Queensway, Birmingham B4 6HY.

Annie Murray , the well known author of books featuring events in and around Birmingham will talk to us about her life as an author and the research involved in writing the books. Christmas Carol Service

Our final Christmas event will be our CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE.

As usual this event will be held in ST. MARTIN’S in the BULL RING

The date is SATURDAY, 18th DECEMBER 2010, commencing at 11am.

You will receive a warm welcome to this charming church and enjoy the service, the choir and the refreshments, all to give you joy and gladness so near to Christmas.

Christmas Lunch

Our Christmas Lunch this year is booked for Friday, 10th December, 12.00 for 12.30

The venue is Fentham Hall, Hampton in Arden.

Nick James will produce a delicious four course Christmas meal plus wine all. for the sum of

£16.50.

Music will be provided by Gordon Whitehouse and there will be suprise after lunch entertainment.

Enter the Competition, a Homemade Christmas Stocking in any medium.

Christmas Outing to Chester

Our Christmas Coach Outing this year will take us to the fine Roman City of Chester. The trip is taking place on Monday 6th December 2010.

This city is yours to explore for the day.

Take a walk on the Roman Walls and admire the Eastgate Clock or take a tour of the city by a Heritage Bus, the bus tour takes about 45minutes.

Visit the Cathedral, the Grosvenor Museum or the Zoo, which has the largest zoo garden in England.

Then of course there are the shops, the city which is famous for its black and white shops. The Christmas lights will be switched on, on the 11th November so the city will look fantastic.

And last but not least find the Market and the Town Hall and a good restraunt for lunch.

This event is open to all members, friends and families

Coach pick-up points will be arranged at a later date

Cake and Coffee Morning

Please come to the Cake and Coffee Morning on Thursday 14th October 2010, 10.30- 12 noon.

The event is being held at the home of Jackie Gregory, Grovewood House, Ullenhall Lane, Gorcott Hill, near Redditch.

This event is being organised by the Science and Public Affairs Committee as a fund-raiser for the Federation and also for the refurbishment of the West Midlands bedroom at Denman College.

Come and enjoy a morning with your fellow members and friends, purchase Jackie’s preserves, buy raffle tickets, win on the Tombola (lots of exciting prizes), cards and boxes from Sue and Kim and rummage through  the bric-a- brac.

All this for £3 plus refreshments and cakes galore!

Look for the W.I. signs in the grass verge as you leave the A435, balloons outside the house. Maps available from County House with a s.a.e. or see the map below!

Federation Day- ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’

On Friday 9th July 2010 we are holding our Federation Day. The theme this year is ‘All things bright and beautiful’ encompassing everything from flower arranging to photography, to wine making and craft-work. On the day you are invited to come along and appreciate the end results of months of hard work and dedication by the members of the federation. Even the youngsters are involved with a category for ‘grand-children’!

The event is being held at Arden Hall, Water Orton Road, Castle Bromwich, B36 9PB starting at 11am until approximately 3.30pm- all welcome, entrance fee is £2.50 per person. To find us at the event keep an eye out for the new ‘WI’ logo signs leading the way!

Visit to St. Nicholas Place, Kings Norton

The Science Group will visit the above site on Tuesday, 28th September 2010. The restoration of this hidden Grammar School has bought new life to The Green at Kings Norton, thanks to Lottery Funding.The tour starts at 11am and will last for an hour. Places are now limited so contact Jackie Gregory for availability on 01564-742761.
