WMFWI “Creative Writing Competition” for the Valerie Daggatt Cup. The title for this year’s competition is “The Cricket Tea”. Members are invited to write a short story based on the theme that the ladies of the WI have been asked to prepare the refreshments for the “Special Jubilee” cricket match between two local rival village cricket teams. Each entry to be a maximum of 1,000 words, typed and double spaced, with a wide margin on each side and must include the total word count. Entries to be at County House by Tuesday, 21st August 2012. Your secretary has all the details and the application form. The Valerie Daggatt Cup will be presented to the winner at the Annual Council Meeting on Wednesday, 3rd October 2012 at Sutton Coldfield Townhall.
The Women’s Institutes Bulb Scheme 2012 Catalogue is with your secretary now. Orders to be in County House by 31st May. By purchasing bulbs you help support your Federation.

Our chosen charity this year is the Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid which works to ensure that women and children have the right to live free from violence, abuse and fear. Our chairman is sure that members will be happy to support this charity by providing knitted blankets, hats and scarves for women and children. Your secretary has the details.

There are two new WI’s in our Federation
Erdington Carnegie WI was formed on 17th November 2011 with 12 members. They held their first meeting in December. Meetings will be held on the third Thursday of the month at 10am at Erdington Library Community Room
Marston Green WI was opened in January 2012. Meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the month 10am-12noon in the Free Church, Land Lane,Marston Green
