Colesbourne Park and Cheltenham

Monday, 27th February 2012 visit Colesbourne Park, England’s greatest snowdrop garden. You will learn about the propagation of the famous snowdrop collection from one of the gardeners, have a guided tour of the garden and enjoy refreshments.

The afternoon will be spent in the delightful town of Cheltenham.

Carol Service at St. Martin’s in the Bullring

Our Christmas Carol Service this year will be held in St Martin’s Church in The Bull Ring, Birmingham on Saturday, 17th December at 10.30am followed by refreshments.

An enjoyable way to start your Christmas amongst family, friends and other WI members. We hope to see as many of you as possible at this event.

Christmas Outing to Salisbury

Christmas Outing to Salisbury, Thursday, 1st December 2011.

There is no doubt that Salisbury Cathedral is the single most beautiful structure in England. In the Cathedral is one of only four original Magna Carta(AD1215)- the famous agreement made between King John and his Barons at Runnymead. See Europe’s oldest working clock(AD1386)

Visit Saint Thomas’s Church to see the decorated Christmas tree Festival. Around the city you will find Saint Ann’s gate, the College of Matrons, The Poultry Cross, the Guild Hall, the House of Jonn a’Porte to name a few. The many shops, Inns, Pubs and Museums will add to the pleasure of your day out. A Blue Badge Guided Tour is available, cost £3.00extra, book with ticket.

This event is open to all WI members, families and friends.  Cost £16. Coach pick up points are with your secretary.

Annual Council Meeting

Our Annual Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday,

5th October 2011, 10.30-3.30 at the Town Hall

Sutton Coldfield.

Come and be inspired by our guest speaker-Britain’s leading organic gardener, radio and tv presenter, regular panellist on BBC Radio 4 Gardeners Question Time. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and to buy signed copies of his books.

Valerie Daggatt Trophy for 2011. Discover who has won the competition for the best children’s story.

The Rose Bowl Competition, has your Institute gained the most new members this year? The result to be announced at this event.

Tea Cosy Competition, what a wonderful display we are expecting, see the winner and all the entries.

Our morning speakers will be Aleathia Mann the treasurer from the National Federation of Women’s Institutes, followed by Karen Palmer who you have knitted all those beautiful blankets and premature baby clothes for. The items will go to the Walsall Manor Hospital Maternity Unit.

The County Quiz for 2012 will go on sale, purchase your copy

Buy raffle tickets and items from the County Shop, Country Markets will be there too. View the sub-committee stands and hear the programmes they have arranged for next year.

If you have never attended an Annual Council Meeting before then promise yourself a day out and come to this year’s event.

There will be a wide range of Craft Tables where you will be able to make an item or two to take home. Each item will have a small charge to cover material costs but all tuition is covered by your entrance fee.

You will be able to try out different card making, quilling, fabric crafts, beading, painting on ceramics or Canal Art.

Demonstrations by the experts and from various companies with knitting machines, sewing machines and all kinds of crafting materials to look at and /or buy.

Finally the opportunity to clear out your unused craft items to bring along to our Bring and Buy Craft Sales Table.

Visit to the Ladies Group at the Bordesley Mosque

Wednesday, 1st June 2011 at 11am.

We have been cordially invited by the above group of  ladies who are interested in liasing with members from the Women’s Institute with a view to learning about our organisation, how we run our meetings and the activities we have.

This is an opportunity to become involved with ladies from our local community, to exchange ideas and to forge new friendships.

Literary Lunch with author Annie Murray.
